Hundefahrradanhänger Made in Germany

stabile Aluminium-Wanne

verschraubte Bauweise statt Vernietung

Bicycle trailers for dogs, your report on the ADAC website from 07.02.2022
Recipient ADAC, Mrs Andrea Pichotta, Mr Matthias Zimmermann

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you for your report on bicycle trailers for dogs. I think it's about time someone addressed this issue. It is essential to help consumers make this choice. The variety of trailers is very large and confusing for consumers, so they urgently need support.
So I think it's all the better that the ADAC is not shirking its responsibilities and is supporting consumers with a report and explaining what's important about a bicycle trailer!
Unfortunately, I have noticed some misinformation from your organisation, including incorrect information, and I am also missing more precise information that the reader can use as a guide to find an easier answer to their questions. Personally, I would have liked to see the ADAC do some professional research, invest some time and effort, and give one or two end users a chance to have their say.
You may be interested to know what information I personally have and what I would have liked to see included in such a report.
Starting with the less important topics of price and weight. The price range for dog bike trailers starts at €46.99 for the Trixie S128813 and ends at over €1500. Unfortunately, the weight information is not correct. There are trailers for dogs from 9 kg to 80 kg. That is the standard.
You write that suspension is important, but provide no information as to why suspension is important. You also provide no information on how suspension works in a bicycle trailer and how many different types of suspension there are on the market. But you consider this to be important?
Your information about the ratio of the size of the dog to the size of the trailer is not correct. Let's take a Great Dane as an example. You say that the trailer should be 150 cm long, 80 cm wide and 150 cm high. How big would the bicycle trailer for a Chihuahua be? 25 cm long, 16 cm wide and 25 cm high. This is not possible. I was unable to find any information about the dog. Every dog has its own character, every dog has different habits, every dog gets older and then the parameters change by 80%, at this point at the latest your parameters no longer fit and cannot be applied. The breed is always important. In Germany alone, according to the VDH, there are 250 standard breeds with official breeding licences, not including hybrids such as Labradoodle, Maltipoo, Cheagle, Cavapoo, etc. There are also 340 breeding breeds. There are also 340 breeding breeds throughout Europe.
Soft cushions in the trailer may make the owner feel good, but unfortunately, they are neither healthy for the spine nor relaxing for the dog. Again, I wish you had done more research, and you would have quickly realised that it is important for a dog to have a pad that protects its joints and vertebrae.
I agree with you that safety is a top priority. Lights, headlights and reflectors are essential for safety. But why don't you tell consumers what to look out for when we talk about a traffic regulation, for example? I assume that bicycle trailers for dogs are also used on the road! Surely, you know that every tail light, every rear or front light needs an approval number. Which supplier has a rear light or spotlight with a Z number? As far as I know, NONE. But I think people should be informed that this is important if the trailer is to be used on the road.
I would also have liked to see issues such as poison in the trailer addressed. Or that a trailer should also be repairable, but above all that we should also look at our environment, our footprint and our eco-balance when we buy.
I was pleased to see that your report did not refuse to address this issue, but I was disappointed with your execution and research, as I doubted that this was the ADAC's claim.
I would appreciate a response from your organisation.
YOURS SINCERELY.
J. Arnold

This is the answer from the ADAC!
Dear Mrs Cornelsen and Mr Arnold,
Thank you very much for your e-mail, which we have studied intensively and with great interest. The ADAC Technical Centre is responsible for responding.
We regret that you consider our article on bicycle trailers to be incomplete. We see a huge development in the field and range of bicycle trailers.
Our technical articles are updated annually. We take your criticism as an opportunity to use some of your comments in the revision.
We appreciate your comments.
Please understand that we cannot include all aspects in our articles. This would be beyond the scope of our size. In addition, we are often unable to carry out in-depth research, for example on the recommended size for the breed in question. We often lack the capacity and experts to do this. Also, we have not come across such detailed explanations in our research. So we can assume that even specialist institutes do not deal with this.
On the other hand, we are obliged to invest our members' contributions only in projects with a clearly calculable financial outcome, which experience has shown was not foreseeable in this case.
We wish you continued success in marketing your products. We find them to be very well-thought-out and of high quality.
We hope we have been of some assistance and wish you a safe journey.

ZZA 6/20 Bike trailer for dogs
  Hard to do without
For many dogs, accompanying their masters on a bike ride is great fun. But not every dog can keep up - depending on the route. This is especially true when riding an e-bike (pedelec). A bike trailer for dogs is the ideal solution for long trips.
Jürgen Arnold of DoggyTourer.de in Straubenhardt, Germany, can attest to the popularity and demand for bicycle trailers for dogs. Just five years ago, his company sold around 200 of its DoggyTourers a year. Today, four-figure numbers are leaving the factory every year. "Our DoggyTourers have become a popular brand," says Arnold. "This has only been possible thanks to our production in Germany," he continues. The Straubenhardt factory is responsible for sales, marketing, development and production of the DoggyTourer.
High quality and "Made in Germany", as well as proximity to suppliers, are particularly important to the trailer manufacturer and should clearly distinguish its products from Asian imports: an aluminium safety tub with maintenance-free elastomer suspension, a leash option, textiles certified to the Oeko-Tex standard, waterproofness, LED lighting, a cover with insect protection, UV-resistant viewing windows, 16-inch wheels and a locking option are all standard features.
When asked how many different trailers the company offers, Arnold tells us. "The range includes different sizes from Idefix (S) for small dogs, Snoopy (M) for medium dogs, Marley (L) for large dogs and a Beethoven (X)L which offers extra space and can also be used to transport two dogs." Arnold has also recognised that special accessories make the leisure product even more interesting. For example, there is an entrance aid for older or insecure dogs, a mesh box for active dogs, a partition and even a double floor for transporting additional items. All in all, the catalogue presents a wide range of standard products designed to make outdoor adventures fun for dogs and their owners. And, throughout, special requests are catered for wherever possible. New additions to the range include retrofittable skis for activities in the snow and a convertible cover for more fresh air. Further innovations are already planned for 2020. For example, there will be a new design very similar to the DoggyTourer XL. The designers are also working on a Cocoon trailer designed specifically for insecure and anxious dogs. And a "world first", according to Arnold, will be introduced this year: the first DoggyTourer with 4 wheels.
Arnold is happy with the sales of the DoggyTourer. In Switzerland, he sells the trailers through specialist dealers, while in Germany and Austria he is increasingly selling them through the online shop. Arnold would like to see more interest from retailers. "Retailers need to become more exclusive," says Arnold. "There are some small retailers who stock our products and their sales figures indicate that there is a demand for products that are not available everywhere," Arnold continues. When asked about the future of the trailer sector with so many different products on the market, Arnold is very relaxed. "The fact is that all dog trailers (except the DoggyTourer) come from Asia. As a manufacturer, we have other goals than the Asian products. DoggyTourer puts the dog first, the Asian products put their profit margin first."
The service that DoggyTourer can offer with such a product is also essential. "A detailed consultation to help the owner find the perfect trailer takes at least 1.5 hours in our company."

                <![CDATA[
Generally speaking, there are only three types of suspension! Oil shocks, gas springs and air suspension! Anything else is an attempt to suspend a bicycle trailer for dogs, but so far, it has not worked. So what kind of suspension do dog trailers usually have? The answer is simple.
We take a spring from the trampoline sector and simply stretch it, which changes the nature of the spring. Now we have created a spring with different levels of tension, i.e. if you push on one of these trailers with your hand, the spring will go down and if you let go of the trailer abruptly, it will go up very, rapidly, just like in a lift!
As all trailers are built the same way, we believe that they cannot be sprung because the continuous axle or wheels built into the frame of such a dog bike trailer means that the left wheel does the same as the right wheel, both wheels simply jump. Imagine if we were in a car and had the same procedure, then when you hit a pothole you would experience the same symptom, the car would jump. That's why suspension dog trailers are a disaster for our pets and are not recommended by us !!!!!
What you can do. Remove the suspension, inflate the tyres to about 1.4 bar and put a solid plate on the floor. That's it, it's not comfortable, but it's 1000 times better than anything else!
How does the DoggyTourer solve this problem? The DoggyTourer has an independent wheel suspension, i.e. each wheel has its own bearing and is separate from the second wheel. The same principle is used in cars, motorbikes, bicycles, etc. The DoggyTourer also uses elastomers with different properties. We have 45 Shore on the inside and 55 Shore on the outside, which ensures that the rebound and compression damping is constant so that each wheel works on its own, no bouncing is possible, and we provide real suspension, your dog stays relaxed when it hits a pothole! A simple principle, but quite expensive and complex to manufacture.
